Think Rydal Is Just a Quiet Suburb? Here's What's Happening Right Now

By the RMCA Board · 3 min read

Think Rydal is just a quiet suburb where nothing ever happens? Step outside on a Thursday evening and you will think differently. Between live music on the sculpture park lawn, crates of farm-fresh produce at the library, and a gallery show that belongs in Center City — this neighborhood is quietly running one of the best summer social calendars in Montgomery County.

We picked three events that capture exactly why living here feels different. Grab your phone, shoot a little b-roll, tag the neighborhood — and then go enjoy them in person.

01 Abington Art Center Summer Concert Series

Families enjoying the free outdoor summer concert series on the Abington Art Center sculpture park lawn

Every Thursday evening through mid-July, the grounds behind Alverthorpe Manor — home of the Abington Art Center at 515 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown — turn into the best backyard party in Abington Township. Gates open at 5:30 PM, opening acts kick off at 6:30 PM, and the headliners take the lawn at 7:15 PM.

The lineup is legit. On July 9, catch Hailey Brinnel and Mervin Toussaint. The series wraps up July 16 with a WXPN-presented set from Owen. Food trucks roll in, kids chase fireflies on the grass, and the whole vibe says: this is what a neighborhood is supposed to feel like.

And it is completely free. Just show up with a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy live music under the trees, a few minutes from home.

🎬 Vlog direction: Slow overhead pan across colorful market stalls, sunlight hitting baskets of heirloom tomatoes. Text overlay — "THURSDAY 3–7 PM — JENKINTOWN FARMERS MARKET."

02 Jenkintown Farmers Market

Jenkintown Farmers Market with colorful canopy tents, fresh produce, and families browsing in golden afternoon light

The Jenkintown Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM in the Jenkintown Library parking lot at 460 York Road — practically next door to Rydal. It started up in late May and runs right through the heart of fall.

Each week brings a rotating lineup of local vendors: Herrcastle Farm out of Holtwood with pasture-raised meats, Mockingbird Sourdough pulling loaves fresh from the oven, MR Big Stuff Cookie Co., and more. It is the kind of market where you go for peaches and come home with a bouquet of zinnias and a loaf of sourdough you did not plan on buying.

Grab a spot after work, let the kids run, and shop local without driving across the county. It is one of those weekly rituals that makes you realize you picked the right neighborhood.

🎬 Vlog direction: Smooth interior gallery walkthrough, natural daylight from large windows, quick close-ups of standout pieces. Text overlay — "ABINGTON ART CENTER — REVOLUTIONARY WOMEN, THROUGH JULY 20."

03 "Revolutionary Women" — Summer Juried Show at Abington Art Center

Bright gallery interior at Abington Art Center displaying mixed-media artworks from the Revolutionary Women exhibition

While the concerts bring the crowds outside, something equally compelling is happening inside the galleries at 515 Meetinghouse Road. The 2026 Summer Juried Show: Revolutionary Women is on view through July 20, 2026.

This is a curated, juried exhibition — meaning every piece was selected by a panel, not just submitted. The work spans painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, all centered on the theme of women who changed the game. It is the kind of show you might expect at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and it is right here in Abington.

If you have not been inside the Art Center yet, this is a good week to fix that. Gallery hours are posted on the Art Center's website, and it pairs perfectly with a Thursday evening concert — arrive early, catch the art, then head to the lawn for music.

Living here means never running out of things to do.

Whether you are raising a family, settling into retirement, or just looking for a neighborhood with real community energy — Rydal and the Abington corridor deliver. These are just three of the reasons why.
