Mid-July in Rydal: The Concert, the Market, and the Library Event You Don't Want to Miss

By the RMCA Board · 3 min read

We are deep into July, and if you think the summer calendar slows down around here — it does not. This week alone, Rydal and the Abington corridor are serving up a farewell concert under the oaks, a farmers market that is hitting its mid-summer stride, and a library lineup that proves you do not need to leave the neighborhood to have a great weekend.

Here are three events worth clearing your schedule for. Bring the camera — these are the scenes that make you realize you live somewhere special.

01 Jenkintown Farmers Market — Peak Season Now

Every Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, the parking lot at the Jenkintown Library — 460 York Road, practically next door to Rydal — transforms into one of the best weekly markets in Montgomery County. It has been running since late May and is now deep into peak summer produce.

This is the time of year when the tables are overflowing: heirloom tomatoes still warm from the field, peach crates that smell like August, fresh-cut bouquets of zinnias, and sourdough loaves that sell out by 5 PM. Vendors rotate weekly, so there is always something new to discover — pasture-raised meats from Herrcastle Farm, handmade pastries, local honey, and more.

It is the kind of Thursday ritual that anchors your week. Grab the kids after work, wander the stalls, run into three neighbors you know. This is what community looks like in practice — and it is five minutes from your front door.

🎬 Vlog direction: Wide golden-hour shot from behind the crowd — families on blankets, string lights glowing between mature oaks, stage in the soft-focus background. Text overlay — "JULY 16 — LAST CONCERT OF THE SUMMER."

02 Abington Art Center Summer Concert — The Season Finale

Mark this one on the calendar in bold. On Thursday, July 16, the Abington Art Center wraps up its 2026 Summer Concert Series with the final free show of the season on the rolling grounds behind Alverthorpe Manor at 515 Meetinghouse Road, Jenkintown.

Gates open at 5:30 PM, opening acts begin at 6:30 PM, and the headliner takes the lawn at 7:15 PM. This is the fifth and final Thursday night of the series — every previous show has drawn a crowd, and the finale is expected to be the biggest night of the summer.

Bring a blanket or a low-back chair, arrive early enough to grab a good spot, and settle in for live music under the trees with food trucks and neighbors all around you. It is free, it is local, and it is the kind of evening that reminds you why you chose this neighborhood. Do not miss the last one.

🎬 Vlog direction: Smooth interior pan across a bright library reading room, kids and parents at a storytelling session, colorful summer reading displays. Text overlay — "ABINGTON FREE LIBRARY — SUMMER PROGRAMS IN FULL SWING."

03 Abington Free Library — Summer Family Lineup

The Abington Free Library — 1030 Old Wales Road, Abington — has quietly assembled one of the best summer lineups in the township, and most of it is completely free. If you have not checked the calendar lately, now is the time.

Coming up: a Teen Artisan Craft Fair on July 25 where young makers sell handmade goods, a KooKoo family variety show on July 18 that keeps kids laughing, and the Abington READS! summer reading program for grades 1–3 with sessions starting July 31 (registration opens July 17). There is also a puzzle event on July 11 for anyone who wants a low-key Friday afternoon.

The library is one of those places that becomes part of your family's rhythm once you discover it. Summer programs are the gateway — you show up for the craft fair, and suddenly you are a regular. This is community infrastructure at its best, and it is right in the heart of Abington.

Living here means never running out of things to do.

From a Thursday evening market run to a free concert under the stars to a library full of family programming — Rydal and the Abington corridor keep delivering reasons to stay close to home and love where you live.
