Think Rydal quiets down after the concert series wraps? Actually, the last week of July is packed with reasons to get out of the house. A new mural is going up on Saturday, the mini golf course at Alverthorpe Park is in peak season, and one of the most beautiful hidden gardens in Montgomery County is in full bloom right now. Here is what is on our radar for the week ahead.
The beauty of living in a neighborhood like Rydal-Meadowbrook is that the summer calendar keeps delivering. Whether you are a long-time resident or just starting to look at the area, these are the kind of outings that make you feel like you have found something special.

01 Abington Township Mural Unveiling — Saturday, July 25
On Saturday, July 25, Abington Township is hosting a Mural Unveiling — a community event that brings a new public art piece to the neighborhood. The event starts at 10:00 AM and is free and open to everyone.
Public murals have become a hallmark of Abington's community identity in recent years, adding color and character to the township's streetscapes. This unveiling is part of the township's broader America 250 celebrations — a year-long series of events honoring the nation's semiquincentennial through local history, heritage, and community spirit. The mural project was developed in collaboration with local artists and community stakeholders, and the ceremony itself is a genuine neighborhood gathering: a few brief remarks, a ribbon cutting, and then the big reveal.
It is the kind of event that brings out neighbors you have not met yet and gives you a new reason to stop and look at a corner of town you pass every day. Bring a folding chair, grab a coffee from a nearby shop, and be part of the moment Abington adds a new landmark to its public art collection. Check the Abington Township website or the RMCA newsletter for the exact location as the date approaches.
🎬 Vlog direction: Wide establishing shot of Alverthorpe Park's mini golf course on a bright summer afternoon, kids and parents with putters weaving through colorful obstacles, the lake glinting in the background, mature trees casting long shadows. Slow pan across the scene. Cut to a close-up of a child putting and celebrating. Text overlay — "ALVERTHORPE PARK MINI GOLF — DAILY THROUGH SEPT 7."
02 Alverthorpe Park Miniature Golf — Summer Fun Right in the Neighborhood
Just a few minutes from the heart of Rydal, Alverthorpe Park at 498 Forrest Avenue, Jenkintown is home to an 18-hole miniature golf course that is open daily through September 7, 2026. Hours run from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and the price is a throwback: $4 per person.
The course is set on the park's sprawling grounds, with the 18 holes winding through shaded areas and open patches near Alverthorpe Lake. It is not a flashy, over-the-top putt-putt — it is the kind of classic, well-maintained community course that has been entertaining neighborhood families for years. The obstacles are creative but not impossible, the greens are in good shape, and the whole thing takes about 30 to 45 minutes at a relaxed pace.
Alverthorpe Park is a residents-only facility (proof of residency required, or non-residents can enter as a guest of a resident), so bring your driver's license or utility bill if you live in Abington Township. Beyond the mini golf, the park has a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, a playground, walking trails, and picnic tables that can be reserved for $8. It is the kind of neighborhood park that families fall in love with — and for anyone considering a move to the area, it is a pretty convincing argument all on its own.
After your round, walk the trail around the lake or grab a picnic table for a late-afternoon snack. The park closes at sunset, but the golden hour light over the water is worth staying for.
🎬 Vlog direction: Slow tracking shot down a winding garden path at Meadowbrook Farm, camera at waist height, flowers and ornamental grasses passing by, a historic stone manor house emerging through the trees. Pause on a close-up of bees working lavender blooms. Pull back to reveal a wooden bench under a rose arbor. Warm golden-hour light, dappled shade. 03 PHS Meadowbrook Farm — A Hidden Garden in the Heart of Rydal
Did you know there is a 25-acre historic estate garden right here in Rydal? PHS Meadowbrook Farm, operated by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, is a free public garden at 1633 Washington Lane, Rydal, PA 19046, and it is open to the public through mid-October.
The garden is the former estate of the Detweiler family, and it has been transformed into a showcase of horticultural design. Winding paths lead through formal flower beds, shade gardens, a Japanese-inspired section, and open lawns dotted with specimen trees. A historic stone manor house anchors the property, and the whole place feels like a secret — serene, uncrowded, and meticulously maintained by the PHS team.
The garden is open Tuesday through Sunday during the season. Admission is free (donations encouraged). If you want a guided experience, the monthly Garden Tour runs on the third Saturday of each month from 1:00 to 2:30 PM — the next one is August 16, and tickets are $30 general ($25 for PHS members). The tour covers the garden's history, design principles, and seasonal highlights, led by a knowledgeable guide.
Whether you have an hour to wander or you want to spend a whole afternoon with a book on a bench, Meadowbrook Farm is one of those places that makes you feel like you have discovered a secret that the rest of the neighborhood has not caught on to yet. It is a true Rydal gem, and it is right in your backyard.
Living here means never running out of things to do.
From a community mural that will stand as a landmark for years, to $4 mini golf at the neighborhood park, to a hidden garden that most people drive past without knowing it exists — this is the week to get out and explore Rydal and the greater Abington area. The summer is still wide open, and there is a seat at the table waiting for you.
